Who We Are
Sky Lion Games began when I stumbled across a game that had been left behind.
It was a quirky, half-finished prototype from another publisher, already touched by two world-class designers and a legendary artist, but never brought to life. I saw something special in it. And during a year of intense personal healing, recovering from cancer and learning to be fully present with my family, I decided to take a shot at making it real.
Together with my daughters, we rebuilt the game from the ground up. We kept the spark of the original design but pushed everything further: funnier monster names, sharper gameplay, upgraded components, and a bold new look. Late nights at the table turned into creative chaos and belly laughs — and slowly, that forgotten prototype became Making Monsters.
It wasn’t just a game anymore. It was ours.
Where We’re Headed
Making Monsters is the first step in a much bigger journey.
We're now working on a growing slate of original titles, games that lean into strategy, mythology, modular storytelling, and cinematic conflict. They’re bigger in scope, deeper in mechanics, and still full of the imagination that started all of this. From silly fun to serious showdowns, every game we publish is designed to bring people together.
Meet the Founder
I’m Joe Welsh — a former U.S. diplomat, tech entrepreneur, and dad who fell back in love with games while recovering from cancer.
Before launching Sky Lion, I built businesses, scaled products, and led complex teams across the world. But it was sitting around a table with my daughters that reminded me what really matters: connection, creativity, and time well spent.
Sky Lion Games is the result: a publishing studio built to bring unforgettable games into the world, one story at a time.
If you’ve read this far, I hope you’ll stick around. The best is still to come.
